Consortium is joined by other Davivienda counsel Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega and Dudley & Asociados in Panama, Addleshaw Goddard LLP in the UK and Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP in the US.
As reported by Latin Lawyer yesterday, HSBC is taking counsel from Arias & Muñoz in Costa Rica and El Salvador, and López Rodezno & Asociados in Honduras. Linklaters is steering the work from the US and the UK, while Brazilian firm Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados is providing M&A counsel in the deal. Morgan & Morgan in Panama and Mexico’s Berdeja Abogados SC are also on board.
The Davivienda buy is a sign of wider interest in Central America from the Colombian market, following on from last year’s US$3.8 billion acquisition of ING Groep’s assets in the region by financial holding company Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana (Grupo Sura), a deal managed by Shearman & Sterling LLP, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and 10 Latin American firms across five countries.
