Machado Meyer is honored to
inform you of the return of Marcos Paulo Verissimo to our firm as a partner. He
will be joining the infrastructure and antitrust practices.
With over one and a half decades of experience in legal corporative practice,
particularly in the areas of regulation, public and administrative law,
infrastructure, and antitrust, Verissimo rejoins Machado Meyer after five years
of extensive activities with the Public Administration.
From 2011 to 2013, he was a Commissioner at the Brazilian Administrative
Council for Economic Defense (CADE, the Brazilian Antitrust Authority), and played
an active role in the agency?s process of restructuring resulting from the
Brazilian Antitrust Act of 2011. Before being appointed to the Antitrust
Council, he was Head of the Office at the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES)
from 2009 to 2011, playing a forefront role in major infrastructure projects
during this period.
In corporative practice, for over a decade, Verissimo represented and assisted
numerous domestic and international companies in complex issues involving
commercial litigation and arbitration (particularly in regulated markets), as
well as antitrust and administrative regulation. He worked for nearly half of
this period as an associate at Machado Meyer, working directly with various
matters related to the regulatory sector.
With a sound academic experience, Verissimo is a tenured Professor of Public
Law at the University of São Paulo, from which he graduated in 1997 and
subsequently obtained both his Master of Laws (2002) and Doctor of Laws (2006)
degrees. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Yale University Law School in 2005.
