Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados has helped waterway logistics company Hidrovias do Brasil obtain 950 million reais (US$295 million) in financing for a project in the northern state of Pará.

Brazilian development bank BNDES, Banco do Brasil, Itaú Unibanco and Banco da Amazônia provided the long-term limited recourse financing, which closed on 15 July. With the exception of BNDES, which relied on in-house counsel, the banks hired Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados.

Hidrovias do Brasil will use the proceeds of the financing to fund the construction and operation of a road-to-water trans-shipment terminal, a private port terminal, and several barge convoys that will ferry between the two terminals.

Last year, Machado Meyer also helped Hidrovias do Brasil obtain a syndicated bridge loan worth US$237 million to develop a grain transport network. Mattos Filho advised the lenders on that transaction too.
